Shenlong Zhao is a Research Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at the National Center for Nanoscience and Technology (NCNST), and a recipient of the National High-Level Overseas Talent Program. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Shandong University, in 2011, and his Ph.D. in Materials Physics and Chemistry from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2017. From 2017 to 2019, he conducted postdoctoral research at the University of New South Wales, Australia, under the supervision of Prof. Liming Dai. From 2019 to 2022, he carried out independent teaching and research at the University of Sydney, Australia. In December 2022, he joined NCNST as a group leader.
Research field:
(1) Water/seawater electrolysis for hydrogen and chlorine production
This direction focuses on the design and development of efficient and stable non-precious metal electrocatalysts, systematically investigating catalyst structural regulation, reaction mechanisms, and scale-up process optimization, aiming to promote low-carbon and low-cost development of green hydrogen production and the chlor-alkali industry.
(2) Electrocatalytic CO2 conversion to high-value-added chemicals
This direction emphasizes the development of efficient and highly selective non-precious metal electrocatalysts, integrating catalyst structural design, reaction pathway regulation, and electrolyzer optimization to achieve efficient electrochemical conversion of CO2 into high-value products such as formic acid, ethanol, and ethylene, thereby providing technical support for carbon reduction and green chemical synthesis.
(3) Development of novel energy devices and systems
Focusing on water/seawater electrolysis for hydrogen production, electrocatalytic CO2 conversion, and fuel cells, this direction conducts research on the design of efficient non-precious metal electrocatalysts, catalyst layer structural regulation, membrane electrode assembly integration, and system optimization. By integrating material innovation, device construction, and engineering development, it aims to provide key technical support for efficient storage and conversion of renewable energy.
